User Experience Strategy- Crafting a Solid Approach To Outmatch Competition

They say, finding common sense is uncommon.

But in the world of Internet, finding a well-strategised, elegant, and human-centred design is an even rarer occurrence.

Most of the websites floating in the ocean of web are nothing more than a bunch of webpages connected by links- they don’t create an ‘experience’ for users.

No brownie points for guessing that such websites do not contribute to nurturing leads or conjuring an influential brand awareness.

However, interfaces that are built with a plan and focused approach look outstanding. Successful organisations like Airbnb, Apple, and Uber pride themselves on design-led thinking. Digital products that are fast, easy-to-navigate and aligns with business’ visions and user expectations attract traffic and footfall both, thus enabling the brand garner more revenue and a positive market stance. This is why building a custom user experience should be one of the priorities of businesses.

Over the years, we at Systango have identified certain key points that dictate whether or not users would want to interact with your website-

  • Designs should strike the right balance between visual appeal and experience.
  • Users crave clarity and simplicity. Rule should be less is more.
  • Nobody actually reads the website. People rather scan and make quick judgements.
  • Interfaces should look familiar- overdoing experiments can do more harm than good.
  • Vertically longer websites are more likely to be accepted. ‘Scrolling above paging’ is a good mantra.
  • There’s a difference between a good-responsive and responsive. Emphasis should be to create fluid interfaces that look good.
  • White spaces ought to be befriended. Strategic use of white spaces improves readability and spike up website performance.

All that being said, let’s jump to the point where we’ll discuss UX strategies that work the best and how we go about them.

User Experience Strategy – the 3 Step Success Formula

Researching >> Planning >> Testing & Validating

Researching

Nothing good can be initiated and completed unless one is sure what the end goal and purpose of the project is. So, we start with an in-depth research phase where we conduct interviews with stakeholders and assess their reasons, opinions, pain points, and goals of the app to be built. Some of our common questions are-

  • A brief about the idea and scope of the project
  • Company’s mission & vision
  • Target audience and market
  • Any preferred tech stack
  • What would be the success criteria
  • Timeline and budget constraints

Apart from this, end user research and competitive analysis are also crucial aspects that are considered to design a fool-proof user experience strategy. We organise interviews and surveys to ask the following questions to users-

  • What are user needs
  • Which relevant digital products they use
  • What are the pain points
  • Which devices are they using
  • Issues they are facing & scope of improvement (if there is an existing product)

Planning

Once we have critical details with us, our team of UX designers start off their mighty mission of planning streamlined user interfaces.

We first create a low-fidelity wireframe that determines how users’ journey should be- how they should move from one page to another to find information that they need. These low-fidelity structures also act as a reference point for developers to write code that supports the anticipated UX.

High fidelity wireframes serve a similar purpose- however, they are more polished and refined version of the end product.

Being an agile development company, we send the wireframes to the client and check their feedback to build a seamless interface that aligns with these business goals. These can be easily translated to a visually appealing website experience.

Testing & Validating

There are some tried and true methods & techniques to determine the experiences users have with the website, web app, or other touchpoints of a company. This typically is referred to as user testing, but there are a few other names as well that are used interchangeably, including UX testing,  user experience testing, and usability testing, to name a few.

For validating product acceptance, we move ahead with user experience testing that follows a smart scientific method. We use moderated testing, unmoderated testing, card sorting, A/B testing, and information architecture testing to check the functionality, aesthetics, brand consistency, online availability & accessibility etc. This helps us assess the overall effectiveness of the system and provide a brand experience that feels just right.

We at Systango love to craft user experiences that are fresh and a treat to interact with. By far, we have built and implemented UX strategies for over 300+ digital products while meeting strict timelines and budgets.
