Client
A financial services company operating an existing corporate investment platform, holding an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor licence. The company set out to extend into the retail investor market with a consumer-grade mobile experience, similar to leading retail investment apps.
Challenge
-
A corporate-only platform: existing infrastructure served corporate clients only, with no route into the fast-growing retail mutual fund market.
-
No consumer-grade product: retail investors expected an app-based experience comparable to existing market leaders, which didn't exist yet.
-
Complex market data: scheme data across 17,000+ funds arrived in inconsistent formats, needing to be normalised for a clean user experience.
-
A live, real-time order lifecycle: mutual fund orders are processed in batches by the exchange, requiring careful state handling rather than instant confirmation.
Objectives
-
Build a retail-facing mobile app for mutual fund investing, from onboarding to redemption
-
Integrate directly with exchange mutual fund infrastructure for real-time order processing
-
Support both lumpsum and SIP (systematic investment plan) journeys
-
Deliver a fund discovery experience alongside investor account management
-
Build an internal admin portal to support the retail operations team
What We Built
-
A retail investment app: covering KYC onboarding with PAN and bank verification, lumpsum and SIP investing, portfolio tracking with NAV-based returns, and fund redemption.
-
Exchange-integrated order processing: built on official mutual fund exchange APIs, with custom handling for asynchronous, batch-based order confirmation.
-
A fund discovery experience: helping investors browse and compare mutual fund schemes ahead of investing.
-
In-app customer support: a ticketing system with push notifications, so investors can resolve issues without leaving the app.
-
An internal admin portal: giving the operations team the tools to manage the retail investor base.
-
A domain-service architecture: five independent services covering onboarding, orders, exchange integration, notifications, and verification, each with its own data store for reliability at scale.
-
AI-assisted engineering practices: used across requirements, coding, and QA, helping the team deliver 3-4x faster than a traditional build timeline.
-
Compliance and security by design: encryption, access controls, and audit logging built in from day one, in line with financial services requirements
