IT and Yoga: Stretch Those Bugs Away!

“The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”

one of the most awesome benefits of Yoga at the workplace, especially in the IT sector is an ease at which you could do it. You don’t need any special section in the organisation for it that has been prepped with many types of equipment nor you have to slip yourself into some special shoes or outfit for the same! Keeping all this in mind, we decide to do a little bit of Yoga in the office today, so that our fellow members realise how good it can be at relieving stress.

Some Stretching Without Sweating
IT people spend a lot of time in front of screens and there are times when they don’t even leave their desks for hours at a stretch. This can have a serious negative impact on back, neck, and shoulders; resulting in pain and tension and carpal tunnel syndrome. Now imagine, you are in a constant working stress and end up with a lower back problem resulting in decreased productivity at work. What yoga does is, it makes you stretch your muscles in the most effective manner, without breaking you into bucketful of sweat. It results in relaxed body and mind that freshens you up for your work in just 15-20 minutes of break along with steep decline in stress and musculoskeletal pain.

Less Hostility and Aggression
Do you find yourself constantly fuming at the client and fellow colleagues? Well, that is due to the work pressure you have to go through at times. In a recent study, a group of coders were engaged in light yoga for 15-20 minutes, daily for 15 days and they showed significantly improved scores for positivity and lowered aggression in work activities. Explains a lot about the benefits of yoga!

Other Benefits Of Yoga On Regular Basis-

  • Stress Management
  • Helps To Improve The Immune System Of Body, Which Eventually Results In Decreased Absenteeism And Sickness Levels
  • Increases Your Productivity And Motivates You To Work With Your Full Potential
  • Enhances Your Creativity And Decision Making Skills
  • Improves Stamina
  • Helps To Induce Positive Thinking Patterns
  • Reduces Muscle Tension And Pain
  • Improves Flexibility And Physical Strength
  • Improves Breathing
  • Decreases Headaches
  • Improves Confidence

According to Bhagavad Gita, each Yoga system is like a step in the ladder to self-realisation, and the topmost step is Bhakti. Practicing some or the other form of Yoga makes you connect with your inner self with intimate connection, forming a bond with eternal realms that is even beyond the manifested universe. This helps you to uncover the endless capacity to love in a manner that is harmonious to all other living beings.

  1. From a desk warrior to a yoga warrior. Yoga really can benefit the It workers and people alike, who are sitting behind their desk for long hours.
